Sadly, someone forgot to tell them they're meant to laugh at everything David says. Unlucky-in-love Tim finds his fortune changing, we discover there's more to demure Dawn than first meets the eye, but there's even less to Gareth.

Die Neuen aus Swindon treffen ein und als Willkommensgruß gibt es eine Office-Party, bei der David (Ricky Gervais) gleich mal sein Talent als Stand-Up Comedian beweisen will. Aber sein Auftritt geht schrecklich in die Hose. Um das zu kompensieren, erzählt er einer Gruppe aus Swindon einen rassistischen Witz, den er zuvor von Gareth (Mackenzie Crook) aufgeschnappt hat. Kurz drauf wird er zu Jennifer (Stirling Gallacher) und Neil (Patrick Baladi) einbestellt, die ihm die Leviten lesen. Wie immer versteht er nicht so ganz, wo das Problem liegt und sieht den fehlenden Humor eher bei den Swindonern als bei seinem Witz. Tim (Martin Freeman) scheint seine Beförderung ein wenig zu Kopf gestiegen zu sein, aber als er merkt, dass Dawn (Lucy Davis) sein arrogantes Verhalten nicht gut findet, lenkt er ein; bei einem Tänzchen im Büro werden sie von Lee (Joel Beckett) überrascht, der Tim unsanft wegstößt.
