Die Tour de France ist das jährliche Highlight des Straßenradsports. Für die Fahrer ist es das prestigeträchtigste und somit das wichtigste Rennen der Saison. Der Rundkurs durch Frankreich beginnt mit Flachetappen, auf denen sich Ausreißer und vor allem die Sprinter profilieren können. Die Entscheidung in der Gesamtwertung fällt auf den schweren Bergetappen in den Alpen und den Pyrenäen.
