No job is more stressful, dangerous or exhilarating than those of the Firefighters, Rescue Squad and Paramedics of Chicago Firehouse 51. These are the courageous men and women who forge headfirst into danger when everyone else is running the other way. But the enormous responsibilities of the job also take a personal toll. With big reputations and hefty egos, the pressure to perform and make split-second decisions is bound to put squad members at odds.

Die Wache 51 bekommt es während eines Brandeinsatzes mit einer Geiselnahme zu tun. Beim selben Einsatz gerät Hermann (David Eigenberg) in einen Konflikt mit einem Polizisten. Daraufhin bekommt er eine Anzeige wegen tätlichen Angriffs und fürchtet, sein Kommando zu verlieren. Unterdessen wehrt sich Severide (Taylor Kinney) gegen seine Versetzung zur Brandermittlung und findet heraus, dass diese von Commissioner Grissom (Gary Cole) veranlasst wurde. Cruz (Joe Minoso) ist entsetzt, als er sieht, dass jemand das von ihm erfundene Werkzeug kopiert hat und es bei einer Feuerwehr-Messe anbietet.
